There's "no bigger fan" of 1970s sitcom "Welcome Back, Kotter" than Ice Cube, so who better to play the wisecracking teacher in a film adaptation of the series that launched John Travolta's career? The rapper/actor will also produce the film.
Oh come freakin on. Look I think Ice Cube is a great actor I really do. I am a fan of the Barbershop movies and Boys In The Hood and so on. He has done a wonderful job of transition from music to movies. But come on. Leave it alone. It's not necessary and it's not like I can say well he was enticed by a fat pay check cause he's producing the damn thing. One of the beauties of Kaplan's Kotter was the lack of "coolness" but with out the knowledge of having that lack of "coolness". It was a man showing that youth although it changes it styles and such the root issues tend to go above time periods. He was awkward. He was like having Groucho thrown into the cast of Saturday Night Live. An inflated self security but based in a high ended outsiderness. Sorry Cube this is a bad one for ya. I would have rather seen another XXX then this.

Angel and The Ape

Angel and The Ape
2001 Vertigo Series
Writing-Howard Chaykin&David Tischman
Art-Philip Bond
Angel and the Ape is old set of characters that DC seems to dust off every so often so they are not forgotten about. Philip Bond has been around for some time I'm not very familiar with his work, but I do like it. He seems to have decided in this case to go a route that is very similar to guys like Evan Dorkin and some of the folks that worked on the View Askew books. But that is where I leave any compliments. Who green lighted this piece of shit? I've nothing against dick and fart jokes but even those have to be funny. Funny enough the way this was written seemed to be an attempt to appeal to the fans of folks like Evan Dorkin and Kevin Smith. The basic story premise is that a lingerie model is murdered and Angle and The Ape have to figure out who done it. Turns out that model started as a porn actress/stripper and it also seems that Angel is now a bit loose in the moral areas. Like I said double entendre and fart jokes are great but when you seem to go out of your way to set up situations just so you can use those jokes you have nothing but crap. As I said I don't know much about the guys involved but it came off as a bunch of old guys where trying to write stories for the "hip" crowd. Please avoid.
