Iggy and Stooges Rider

Smoking Gun has posted the rider for Iggy and The Stooges. First it has to be one of the more resonable ones I have seen (seems the boys don't bus tour or bring any equipment except for their instruments) But the bloke who writes the thing is a scream check it out here.

RIP Missing Link

Just found out while reading Jim Ross's blog that Dewey "The Missing Link" Robertson passed this weekend. I was a huge Missing Link fan absolutely loved the character. Sad loss.

Meeting the Eastend

MIKE REID
(19.1.1940 – 29.7.2007)
I just found out about this from X-Y-Z Cosmonaunt's blog and it truly saddens me. Yes it might have been odd that a young teen boy was obsessed with and English night time soap opera (Eastenders) but dammit I found it to be an intriguing show and Frank Butcher was always one of my favorite characters

Now this is getting silly

I have a lot of respect for Ridley Scott as a film maker and Numbers happens to be one of my favorite television shows. But this is getting really really really out of hand. This is one time I have to brag about following my gut and state how happy I am I kept putting off getting this movie. I knew something like this would happen sooner or later and to be honest with you I really have a hard time belivieng this is the last time they will do it, but this is enough for me. I'll go with the 4 disc set myself the briefcase is just a bit much and maybe one day a friend will have it for me to watch that 5th disc workprint.
Just a bit outside......

I've been hooked on a lot of TV recently. Fortunately with DVR it is things that I actually want to watch. The one thing that has absolutely dominated my interest as far as the boob tube goes is on of all places ESPN. Their original production of the Jonathan Mahler's The Bronx is Burning: 1977, Baseball, Politics, and the Battle for the Soul of a City.
This miniseries will hit home for a lot of people particularly those that lived in the area and/or where Yankee fans at that time focusing on the 1977 drive for the championship. I by no stretch of the imagination was a die hard Yankee fan but my family being originally from NYC and living with in 10 minutes of the city all did pretty much bleed blue and white pin stripes. I was a casual fan at best going along with what every one else was at that time with in my house hold. To all of us kids Reggie Jackson was the hero of the hour. The guy that we all looked up to. I couldn't even tell you why we just did (this was actually greatly encouraged by the our surroundings too which is very odd as I do not come from the most embracing back groud). Maybe because we all wanted to hit home runs who knows but he was the guy. In what was a tumultuous time in this country I can now see through this movie why so many families of Yankees fans hung to that team so much at a time when I was way to young to notice the other things that where going on. It was there hope there living outlet to beat the crap that was going on. My family was only about 10 years living outside of NYC and a lot of the issues that are mentioned in the film bankruptcy, crime, pollution and corruption are what drove them out in the first place.
The movie runs through varied sup plots of that same year Son of Sam, The Great Black Out, The Looting and a brutal mayor race. It captures the intense night life that continued even with all the madness going on a night life that I can distinctly remember some of my younger uncles and aunts being a part of.
The driving force of the film is the characters Billy Martin (John Turturro), George Steinbrenner(Oliver Platt) and Reggie Jackson(Daniel Sunjata)(and I would say the sleeper is Thurman Munson(Erik Jensen) I won't even get into the saint hood that man carried in my neighborhood. Not since the assassination of the Kennedys do I think a whole town mourned and that included Mets fans) The 3 main characters do a wonderful job of portraying humanity having you sympathise with them one moment and wanting to club them the next. Well except for Steinbrenner no self respecting New Yorker let alone Yankee fan would ever sympathise with George no matter how bad it got :).
That being said a lot has to go to the technical aspects that have gone into the movie. Once again much in the same vain as Grindhouse or Sky Captain we get to see the true power of CGI used for good. John Turturro as Billy Martin truly looking like he is stepping out to the mound on your 18 inch Magnavox that desperately needs the rabbit ears adjusted while Phil "Scooter" Rizzuto calls the action. The splicing and editing of old and new footage is incredible and the use of almost a hidden camera type shot in closed door conversations is great as well.
I hope when it comes time for this series to receive it's accolades that the folks behind the scenes are not forgotten about as they are a major contributing factor as to what is so great about it.

This is some of the best DVD release news I have heard in a while. I've been waiting for this for a long time. Lucas has promised that there will be a lot of unseen stuff in here.

WTF!!!!!!
According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.
Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday’s live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE’s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.
Authorities representing the Sheriff’s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit’s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.
At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities’ findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.
WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.
The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.
WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.

First day of Bash has come and went. After finding out that what might have been some nightmare auto repairs on the car left back at home would not be to bad at all and the pleasent surprise that there was one of our new found favorite resturants in the area (finding that turned out to be a Griswaldien story in it self.) Had a nice time. Really just a quick run threw yesterday to see what was avilible. Still some guests have not arrived yet. Stopped in to see Basil Gogos who has to be one of the nicest people I have ever encountered in my life period but I can guarentee is the nicest person to be on the convention scene.
Later checked out a 16mm screening of Night Monster this was a fun movie but the really cool part was seeing a film and actully hearing sprocket and project in the room with me again brought back some crazy memories.
Then it was Mexican Movie night with a showing of Frankenstein, The Vampire and company with yay free tacos.

Well early tomorrow (actually today) it is off to my first Monster Bash. The family and I will be making the trek down there for some fun. Very bummed that Forrest Ackermen had to back out but I still think this will be a lot of fun. Anyway with the ability to post from phone hopefully I will be able to make this my first venture into regular updating.

The Newspaper Wrapped Fish has finally come in and none to soon.
Ah the 500 pound gorilla is dead. Not that I think it was a bad show but I think after the second season it blew it's wad and it was grossly overrated. I think the fact that people where able to see graphic television on a semi regular bases has more to do with anything then the quality of the show. Maybe I few years down the road I will take a week of my life and just do a beginning to end on it but honestly it just didn't do it for me after those first few episodes.
Now lets start a pool on how long it takes Robert Iler to wind up in the headlines. I find it interesting that his wiki entry for his character is twice as long as his personal entry.

Places I would like to go #1

I have what would amount to a couple of hundred pages list of places I would like to check or get to with in driving distance and less then a couple of hours from my home. I figure if I post them here maybe I will be less likely to remember them when I'm sitting around going "what do you want to do?" "I don't know what do you want to do?"

News News everywhere and not a drop to Think

For those of you who don't know NJ has been dealing with some wild fires in the southern Pine Barrens (yes home of the Jersey Devil)over the last few days. I found out about this while on line at the Johnette signing on Tuesday. For those of you who also don't know I am in the middle of one of my semi regular news black outs I'll explain these some other time. Sometime yesterday the wife and I received a phone call from my mother in law explaining that my brother in law who is an EMT in central NJ was being sent down that way to help evacuate hospitals. The smoke amount from these fires has been pretty intense particularly because of the type of foliage in the Pine Barrens that is burning.
Fortunately with some great skill (with in context mind you) the fires where able to be kept to minimum of human damage. After the phone call I went on line to find out what was going on. It took me 15 to 20 minutes to find a relatively informative piece that was not buried under mega word articles on Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie or a 4 sentence snippet with some guy going "uggh uggh fire down there uggh uggh". I guess this is one of the contributing factors to my black outs. Not even the local news stations/papers where able to provide me with any justifiable information. Where is this going. I just want news. I want facts. Not Left leaning not Right leaning. None of that crap. I want dull drab monotone emotionless news casters. I want Walter "fucking" Cronkite. I don't want entertainment. Make me have to force myself to stay awake during your 1 hour show. I don't want multi color stingers and all this other crap. Just give me the damn facts. News doesn't lean one way or the other because of partisan politics it does that because it's easier. If you lean one way or the other you don't have to do any research just call up a press agent and get your whole story fed to you then dress it up to look like one of those pretty video games that you will tell every one is rotting american youth in the next hour block.
AHHHH fuck!!! I'll just stick to getting my news from the paper hard nosed and gutsey enough to bring me the exclusive on Bat Boy

Still In Hollywood
This was worth the hour and half drive. Johnette's performance was better then I could have hoped for. I don't remember every song she preformed at the moment but it will come to me as time goes by. But I do remember Joey, The title track from her upcoming solo album, an insane drum and dance version of Tomorrow Wendy a version of Mexican Moon that damn near brought me to tears.
I had the opportunity to speak with Johnette who was a very warm and receptive person. She seemed so touched the people where there. Yes I got the autograph and the picture as well as taking the opportunity to find out from the source how the Johnette/Bad Religion collaboration came about. Turns out that Johnette and James of Concrete Blonde worked at a pressing planet during the recording of How Could Hell Be Any Worse... and Brett and the band gleaned some info from them at the time and they have remained friends ever since. This was an wonderful time that I will not forget. I know this is very weak but I either do a short run or I will go on for hours. If you are in the area of NY/NJ Johnette will be appearing on WFUV tomorrow (5/16) at 1:30 I highly recommend you check it out.

Not much to go on about right now. Blog lines is giving me a bit of trouble from the work place. See now that you can post to your blogger blog mobile. Well that means a lot of bad phone pictures. My camera phone takes pretty bad pics but there is something about them that I really love. I really don't know what it is but they seem to come out with almost a true captured moment thing. The way it catches light can be very surreal sometimes too.

Made the trek down to Baltimore this past Friday to catch up with the guys in Time Again at the Otto bar. First let me say anytime you have a chance to check out the Otto bar I would suggest it at least once. Great place very well run very easy to deal with. Had the chance to meet Lou Brutus of XM Radio and have been given the chance to at least attempt to live out something I have wanted to do for a long long time. Saturday down to Asbury Lanes again to see the guys and actually watch the Nekromantix this time around as I did not stick around to see them in Baltimore. Being privy to some wonderful listening pleasure (ah Dan you make me feel so special haha) and some practical jokes. Got a chance to talk to hang out most of the folks on the tour minus the Nekromantix. They seemed to keep to them selves a bit which I guess I can understand. Crispin Glover was showing his film and doing a Q/A next door which somehow made the word around that he was having some sort of Nazi rally. I for one think there was a misinterpretation somewhere as his film is cast with nothing but folks with down syndrome and I don't think the Reich smiles much on folks with "disabilities" Gotta go work on a CD (more about that later)

Got back from FL last Monday. Had a killer time visting some friends.
Got a chance to do a quick run through of Universal studios and even got pic with Captain America (pre his demise) the Mummy ride is still the ultimate in mix between thrill coaster and dark ride. Grabbed a bunch of Dvd while I was down there (including Pete and Pete season 1).
I got lucky and found a Dusty Rhodes from WWE Classics at an old dump dept store that I haunted as a kid (also came across a dollar copy of one of my favorite movies His Girl Friday and when I checked out some of it this weekend it is of super quality for being so cheap). Finding the Dusty makes up for the snacked on by the dog while I was gone Hansome Jimmy Valient. Borrowed a bunch of stuff from the wife's parents to watch one of which was Man of Year. Watched that yesterday not something to brag to the grandkids about but had it's funny moments.
Story of WCCW has begun on WWE 24-7. I have waited years for something like this and to this moment it has not disappointed. Hosted by Michael Hayes and Kevin Von Erich (KVE still has a horrible non wrestling on screen pressence). Michael steps right back into his old self. One thing I have noticed so far is the amount of masked guys that worked WCCW and this is only two episodes in.
Boston next weekend for St. Pats.
So much going on I have to do this on a regular bases to keep up.
